The home in my memory

Medium:
Clay, pigment, acrylic sheet, artificial moss

Size: 54cm x 34cm x 32cm

Large handbuilt ceramic piece for Handbuilding II course at Ewha Womans University for the 22-2 fall semester. For this project, the theme given was ‘Home Sweet Home’. When the theme was presented, my parents were leaving the house I had lived in since birth and in the process of moving to their dream one. Since I was in another country, I could not assist with moving and was unable to say a proper goodbye to the house. So for this project, I wanted to express my old home and how it is becoming merely a memory in my head. Similar to an abandoned or empty building, weeds and moss will eventually swallow the house to the point where I cannot enter it anymore. However, this change in my life is just another step of growing up. Instead of withering, I appreciate the memories that my old home holds and accept this change to mature.
